Luxury crisis, boutiques halved in five years. The alarm: “Less attention from politics compared to cars”
After the meeting at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the government has announced a €250 million intervention to revitalize the sector by 2025. But will it be enough? An interview with Maura Basili, president of Camera Buyer Italia.
A national roundtable on the fashion sector, chaired by Minister Adolfo Urso, has concluded at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. The crisis facing the sector, which could bring one of Italy’s economic pillars to its knees, has prompted the government to promise an intervention of €250 million by 2025.
The situation couldn’t be more urgent, as the entire supply chain is in freefall: distribution problems, production crises, and a collapse in demand in key markets, such as Asia, are suffocating the sector. The alarm has been raised by Maura Basili, president of Camera Buyer Italia (the trade association representing Italy’s leading multi-brand stores), in an interview with Affaritaliani.it. Without immediate action, the boutiques—heart and soul of Made in Italy—could shrink by half in the next five years. This blow could drag the entire industry into a downward spiral.
