Io sono il sole – Documentary screening and meeting with actors and authors.
Spazio Bernardelli – Mantova – Corso Umberto I, 27
That youth is overrated is one of the first opinions expressed by the unpredictable Lorenzo Riva, starring with Luigi Valetti, his former life partner and eternal collaborator, in Io sono il sole, a film documenting the daily lives of these two fascinating characters with a glorious past in the fashion world.
After heading the Balenciaga fashion house in Paris in the 1980s, Riva was one of the protagonists of Italian prêt-à-porter in the 1990s. Today, in an economically stagnant Italy, alternating between a routine life and luxury events, Lorenzo and Luigi do not stop fighting to regain their prestige in the international fashion world. After years of separation, they return to live under the same roof and begin a relationship that is as complicated as it is necessary. In their daily routine, made up of boring days and important events, they do not stop pursuing success, as if they were at the beginning of their careers. An intimate journey, in black and white, towards the classic elegance of a past era, which resurfaces intact. To season it all, tender quarrels and reconciliations, within a family that is friendship and ironic complicity.
The film was written, directed and produced by Ilaria Gambarelli, an Italian director working in Spain with the production company Aretusa Films. The French company Chakalaka Films participates in the production with producer Hector Ulloque. The magnificent photography is by Luis Manuel Caballero.
After two years of restrictions due to the pandemic, the film had its world premiere at the Odessa International film festival and began a very interesting journey through international festivals, including the Visioni dal Mondo International Festival in Milan, the Festival de Documentales de Moda Feed Dog in Barcelona and the Navarra Film Festival, winning Best Film and Best Director.
An elegant and direct film that allows us to slip behind the scenes of the world of haute couture, discovering two personalities who have made style their rule of life: age is just a convention.
