Say that Antonio Marras has surprised us is absolutely reductive, the designer decided to move from fashion to theater, bringing his collection to a real stage rather than a banal catwalk.
Presented inside the Puccini Theater in a suggestive 45-minute show, the SS 2020 collection by Marras is a meeting between Japanese and Sardinian culture. The designer takes inspiration from the theater of these two worlds so different from each other.
The collection is inspired by the story of the love story between princess Shiro and the Sardinian shepherd Baingio, a story that constitutes a red thread between the two ancient traditions and that with Marras has given fruit to pieces rich in history. Central element: the kimono and its wonderful reinterpretations.
The show goes well beyond the limits of its term, as the designer puts on a real performance, a theatrical work without speech, in which the models interpret the story, sometimes even with masks, or with dance, or props in harmony with dresses, such as pillows with embroidered faces or large red paper umbrellas.
Red is also one of the prevailing colors, which is the color of Japan, but softened with pink in details and floral elements, together with white, which with the last garment dominates the scene with the headdress and the long veil that “ princess ”picks up at the center of the stage at the end of the show.
Fashion has been brought to a different level than usual, making this show a real cultural experience.
