ALTAROMA – WHO IS ON NEXT?

ROME, Pratibus district, 4-7 July 2019

This year too, the Italian capital hosted the international contest “Who is on next?”, a scouting project organized by Altaroma and Vogue Italia in collaboration with ICE ( the agency for the promotion and internationalization of Italian companies abroad) whose aim is to promote and support emerging designers for Made in Italy.

Within an old ATAC warehouse, an industrial setting, the collections of the five finalists for ready-to-wear S/S 2019 were shown: Bav Tailor, Daniele Carlotta, Federico Cina, Jing Yu, and Twins Florence; while for the accessories segment the collections of Hibourama, Iuri, Maiorano and Nahiot Hernandez have been presented.

The jury included leading figures such as Carlo Capasa, President of the National Chamber for Italian Fashion; Emanuele Farneti, Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue and Silvia Venturini Fendi, President of Altaroma. Other important figures attending the event included the members of the Chamber of Italian Buyers (CBI) Bruna Casella and Roberta Valentini, buyers respectively at Bernardelli Store and Penelope Store, and Mario Dell’Oglio, former president of the association.

With unanimous consent, the winners of the fifteenth edition turned out to be: Federico Cina, for ready-to-wear and Maiorano for the accessories section. The jury wanted to reward the incredible mastery in the use of volumes, fabrics, and prints through very personal storytelling of the Romagna based designer and the harmony between contemporary and traditional Italian footwear by the accessories designer from Rome.
Federico Cina, winner of the Franca Sozzani award, will be able to benefit from a financial contribution offered by Altaroma and Vogue Italia and of a fashion show or presentation on the PAP Area in Milan during the Milan Women’s Fashion September 2020 by the National Chamber of Fashion. The Pitti Tutoring & Consulting Prize consists in supporting the brands for six months, which will be followed by Luca Rizzi, Tutoring & Consulting Director of Pitti Immagine, in supporting and promoting the brands in the year following the award.

Moreover, as usual, it will be possible to observe the collections of all the finalists of “Who is on next?” 2019 during the Fashion Week in September, in the setting of Palazzo Cusani, where their S/S 2020 collections will be exhibited.
